Decomposition Unit

The Recycling Decomposition Unit sets a new standard for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions while ensuring the safe decomposition of N2O in bottles that end up at recycling stations.

Recycling Decomposition Unit (RDU)

The RDU represents an intelligent solution that can be effortlessly relocated. The unit effectively collects nitrous oxide from discarded N2O bottles and decomposes it within a self-supporting system with minimal energy consumption and low noise output.

The RDU decomposes over 99% of the nitrous oxide entering the system, creating a safer work environment for recycling workers and significantly reducing the climate impact. The unit has been designed with the mobility needs of recycling professionals in mind, ensuring easy operation.

The standard model RDU is able to deconstruct 360 g of N2O per hour. Which means that it is able to decompose of roughly one full 640 g bottle per1,8 hours.

The RDU can be adapted as needed if it needs to handle larger quantities of N2O bottles.

Recycling Decomposition Wagon (RDW)

The RDU is easily connected to the RDW through a connecting hose. The wagon is able to accomodate 26 standard 640 g N2O bottles.

General principle

The RDU is a decomposition unit that utilizes a catalytic process to decompose nitrous oxide into oxygen (O2) and nitrogen (N2), which are the primary components of air. The decomposition process requires a high temperature, and Medclair has developed a unique technique using a heat exchanger and isolation that results in a high degree of energy recycling. This significantly reduces the energy consumption required after the initial heating up of the unit.

Through the use of a catalytic process in the reactor, nitrous oxide in the exhaled air entering the RDU is decomposed to a degree of over 99%, breaking down the environmental aggressive nitrous oxide into N2 and O2. These gases can then be safely returned to the environment.

Reliability

The RDU has been built with a simple design, utilizing few moving parts and components, resulting in high reliability and an extended product lifespan.

The unit also features an integrated control system that continuously monitors various parameters, such as temperature and gas flows. In case of an overload, the RDU automatically shuts down to prevent damage. 

Control and monitoring

Upon delivery, the device is configured for remote monitoring, and it is simple to connect the unit to Medclair's technician for remote monitoring and technical support.
